Since 1936 when the first stamp depicted Charles Darwin is issued by Ecuador, in order to commemorate 100 anniversary since his visit on Galapagos Islands, many other post stamps are issued around the world.

Let's show here our stamps and covers related to the great scientists.

Ecuador 1936 (on the stamp 1935)

Just puzzled why the set contains a stamp of Columbus ?

FDC and fine used cover as well as some technical data and official description are wanted

The unusual on the stamp of R2.50 is the face of Darwin. If you look on HD scan, you can see the white man seating on the elephant - I suppose he is C. Darwin. However at the time when he made his journey on HMS Beagle he didn't had any beard and mustache.

Moreover, look on the form of the beard and mustache there. It different from well known face of Darwin, depicted on 25c stamp.

Can it be that stamp designer depict himself on the stamp ?

Unless the designer didn't know and simply assumed that Darwin would still have had his beard, only brown instead of white?

all four sets seems to be designed by the same company or person and shows various occasions of Darwin's trip. Three sets shows young Darwin, but the one from Mauritius is quite different......

Love it. I have my own Darwin collection of postally used British Charles Darwin on cover...

(Oh and a few Darwin PHQ cards / FDCS - but British only as I decided to keep the collection to the manageable size!)
