This looks very interesting John, I have taken your scan and slightly adjusted the sharpness and position of your stamp to enable a sideways view.

Then I have taken an enlargement of the area in question so as to magnify it.

And also reproduced the image to impact mode.

From the images taken, I am unable to see a "1" preceding the "77"

Good luck with your find, Fred.

To add interest to your find, here is a report made by the BBC back on the 8th February 2012.

You may have found a "hens tooth", Fred.

Tim was a bit brief in his answer without stating as to why he had come to his conclusion over which plate it was, these are the reasons he gave me when I contacted him via email.

It's always best to find out why a decision is made. Fred.

Hi John, here is an attachment of the plate 77 stamp procured by Stanley Gibbons a few years ago.

For comparison, I can well understand your optimism on your discovery. Fred.

Fred thanks again for your interest. I'm now at the point where I'm hoping to get an opinion from one of the dealers/auction houses. With the current travel restrictions it may a while before I can make a trip to U.K. they may give advice or an opinion online. I'll keep you advised on the outcome.

John
