I started collecting German stamps (All periods) last year. I'm using a Stanley Gibbons (12th Ed) catalogue, which is OK but a bit lacking in detail. I also have access to the Scott online catalogue. It's cheap, but that's reflected in what you get.

I think what I really need is the Michel specialised (Vol 1 and 2) catalogue in English - but its fiendishly expensive (at least for my small, locked down budget).

I'm not too interested in current values and don't plan to collect beyond the year 2000, so second hand would be fine but even on eBay I can't find the two vols for much under £100.

  • Does anyone know where I can get some cheap Michel's ?
  • Can anyone suggest an alternative?
  • Does anyone have any tips for a beginner to German stamp collecting?

Thanks for your help.

I think you will always be asked a premium price for the English edition. The 2 vol German ed of 2010 is available for €50 the two from philabooks.com I note.

Michel let you access it online for a monthly fee
