I have been asked a question regarding the plate number of a 1841 Penny Red imperforated Stamp I'm currently selling on Declampe and Hipstamp (see image). Could someone help me please and give me some help in identifying the plate number.

Andrew,

Based on the cancellation used post 1844 it is not an early plate, Paul Davey 1 ( the moderator ) gave a site recommended to help would be platers in a recent posting with the heading of " is my SG8 the rare plate 107 ? " .

NOTE :

Many of the 1d reds do not have identifying marks on them and consequently are difficult to plate.

I suggest that you make this your first place of call, Fred.

An expert on such things would tell you quickly. Noticeable are missing upper frame line of the NE star and a more unusual, almost missing lower frame of the G square.- I'll ask a friend!

Dear Paul,

What is your friendly expert answer based upon? Is it explained in SG GB QV Specialized Cat. If so do you or your friendly expect have a copy? If so could you please scan and send me the relevant pages because I have a few more of these stamps

Andrew

Hi Andrew

based on Roland Brown (volume 2 out of 5 in this case) which is now available on **LINK**

You can measure a scan at 800dpi and convert the dpi measurements to Roland Brown measurements and use the search function to get the best fits. The link I already provided to the wiki might help if someone has already loaded it. If not then adding it once you know the plate will help everyone else!

Good luck
