Phosphor Band's

I am just getting back into my collection after a few decades, I purchased a UV torch from flea bay to look at the Phosphor bands etc. It seems to work dimly on some but not at all on some I know have bands! I used to have another lamp back in the day but lost it, As I remember it used to make the band's pop out.

Is it my memory playing tricks or have the bands faded with age

Hi Kim,

I note your dilemma, however you do not seem to have stated from which country I can only presume that they are British ,what period of time are they ? , it may be that you have the wrong type of black light as a long wave UV lamp will not show the phosphor on British Wilding stamps, you will need a short wave version.

Hope that this info will assist you.

I have a 1/2D Machin I hold it to the light and it has two bands.

I have a £3 uv torch from ebay and it shows nothing up!

I have a £25 uv lamp from a dealer and it shows nothing up!

I am sure that years ago I had a lamp and the Phosphor bands glowed quite bright.

What's going on?

Hi Kim,

I remember in your original posting of 30/6/19 you stated the same problem .

There was a rumour some years ago that the phosphor bands overprinted on stamps could deteriorate over time, whether or not this is true is another matter .

Perhaps someone with further knowledge on this subject may have an answer !

The ½d Machin that you mention, is it a used or mint copy, you do not state it's condition ?

Regards,Fred .
