I've just uploaded the draft of our article about the Battle of Britain stamps. (It'll be up later this month).
That, you may remember, like a lot of British 60s issues, had different designers for different values. I have NEVER thought that works properly, no matter how talented the individual designers.
Anyone want to offer a different view? Can you persuade me?

Well I would tend to agree with you, with perhaps the exception that if all the artists had the same basic style, so that it conveyed a unified whole, that might work? But yeah, if there are a bunch of designers, the whole tends to look rather random...
