Sorry, Julian, not been here for a long time.

Royal Mail published that information in 2014, I'm not going to ask them again. You could ask your Post Office, considering they will be the people accepting the mail. It will be interesting to see the reply.

OR, you could write to RM Customer Services or Post Office CS.

I just want so say that in conclusion with this subject I have used one of these and it is correct what Ian has said. As I could not get a letter or email from Royal Mail or Post Office I sent an item over gram weight and it still got there! I got my friend to send me the stamp label back. So the Label does indeed step up to the next tier if revalued at a later time.

For those who would like to see my returned used 40 gm beauty

And if I had given some logic to the question I was seeking and to Ian's answer here is a 1995 1st class and back then and was only valid for up to 60g but of course now is 100g

However it still shows how little Post Office know about these matters, as I never got the answer back in writing,
