Thread: Vatican Stamp Engravers
11/01/2019 21:43:36

Hi Trevor,

That would be fantastic. Look forward to hearing what reference material he uses for Vatican stamps.

My favourite stamp engravers are Czeslaw Slania and Albert Decaris.

Regards

Geoff

Hi Trevor,

I am aware that some catalogues have who designed and engraved which stamp, unfortunately I do not have a catalogue for the Vatican

Also, I do enjoy reading through the Stamp Engravers blog as well.

Thanks for you response

Hello all,

I was going through a small collection of stamps from the Vatican City and a few of them caught my eye. This lead me to try and find a list of engravers who engraved stamps for the Vatican.

Unfortunately my research has failed me and I was wondering if anyone here new of a list or could share a list here.

Regards

Geoff

Thread: Help with identifying Greece Hermes
29/08/2013 23:39:20

Thanks Michael

I am not very good with depicting Colours, luckily my wife if pretty good at it.

Once I work out the colour I guess that will help with what year this stamp was released.

Thanks for this info Michael.

I am thinking of selling this stamp on ebay, just wondering what would be the best description to put on it. Oh and I will be starting this at .99c.

Thanks for your assistance Michael. I have just been looking at my 2009 Scotts catalogue and I am unable to locate this stamp for 1880-86 series.

Here are the pages from Scotts I have. I was just wondering if you can point me in the right direction from these pages.

There is a pile of information about the Large Hermes heads (the first Greek stamps) at

this site

I have had a look at that site as well but it was also confusing, well for me anyway.

Roos, I have no time at the moment but when I do I'll have a look in my Greek catalogues and see if I can find out a bit more about your stamp. There are several printings from several printers I believe, so it is a bit of a minefield, but maybe we can narrow it down a bit!

Thanks Adrian. I look forward to reading your findings.

I found this stamp in a bulk lot I bought quite a while a go and only now going through it.

I also have Scott catalogue and noticed all the different plate etc. I am not sure how to determine which one it is though.

I have just come across this stamp from Greece. I don't collect Greece so this is well out of my collecting interest.

I was just wondering if someone can me to identify this stamp with a CV.

Thread: Elizabethan stamps
17/08/2013 13:53:40

I recently purchased a small lot of Hong Kong stamps and decided to do some searching for varieties.

I have managed to find one which is listed in my 1973 Elizabethan Catalogue.

The variety I found was on the 1954-62 Hong Kong 30c Grey Queen Elizabeth II with the Joined Jewels Variety. The variety is on the top stamp on the right crown where the Jewels at the foot of the crown are joined to the main part of the crown, by a grey-coloured flaw.

This variety in my 1973 Elizabethan Catalogue has a CV of £1.40 Mint and no CV for used. If anyone has a more current Elizabethan Catalogue can you please help with a CV.

This is my first post, so I do appologise if it doesn't work.

One of my favourite King George VI stamps is this 1945 Nyasaland 20/- Badge of Nyasaland.
