Thread: Faded or Part missing colour?
As you say there would be no pink anywhere if it were a missing colour.
Printers waste must be a bit of a security problem. Wonder if any of the printers are stamp collectors?
These stamps are from the G.B. 1980 Christmas set.
The stamp on the left is the usual stamp.
The stamp on the right has some of the pink missing.
Do you think this has faded or is it a part missing colour?
The scan does not show the difference as well as seeing the stamps.
Thread: Moderation of this forum- Is There any??
Gillian & Other members.
The only way we will keep this forum alive is by everybody contributing something.
I know some people on forums don't think they know enough to join in but I am sure we appreciate every contribution. APART FROM THE SCAMMERS!!
I am just going to post an item about I colour change on a G.B. stamp.
Thread: Help to identify Argentina stamps
These look like fiscal or revenue stamps so you probably won't find them in standard catalogues.
There are specialised books on these sort of stamps but they are rather difficult to get hold of.
Thread: Perfin - how does it affect the value of the stamp
Your collection should be whatever you want it to be. I think that a perfin is a valid stamp that could be used postally.
I have a small collection of perfins and to me they are just part of my collection.
A few people turn their noses up at items like perfins but that is their opinion.
Collect whatever you like to collect.
Thread: game of thrones
Oh Trevor you are cynical!!
I can't believe R.M. would issue sets of stamps just to raise revenue!!
The only stamps I receive these days are from overseas sellers from ebay.
I stopped collecting G.B. new issues about twenty years ago, my pockets weren't that deep!!
Thread: Help with identification of Chilean Tax Stamp
Thanks for your comments Trevor.
If you enlarge the brown stamp it does look a bit pinkish- red. I have now compared it with the 2 Centavo stamp and the colour is almost the same!!
Something else I have noticed under magnification is the U of un centavo is more like an O.
I can't find any mention of a colour error so at this stage I must assume it has either faded or been in unusual conditions.
However the brown does seem to be fairly even all over the stamp so I will continue my investigations.
In the photo the stamp on the right is F86 in Stanley Gibbons catalogue Part 20.
Recently I bought the stamp on the left amongst several others.
It looks identical to the other stamp except it is brown and not red.
The 2c stamp in this set is brown.
Do I have a error, a colour change or a fake?
Thread: Norge 5 ore imperforate
As Paul thought it is from a Norwegian Postal Card printed in the 1880's. Looks like a nice copy with a good cancellation. These cards aren't normally catalogued but you can find details of them on the internet. Google "Norway postal cards".
Thread: Nigeria stamp query
The cancellation by the "Air Mail" sticker shows 27th August 1982. I think the Aduna should be Kaduna, which is a region of Nigeria as is Kano.
Thread: Bavaria old postcard curiosity
Interesting card. Can you make out the dates of the cancellations? Are they close together or in any sort of sequence? I wondered if somebody got hold of the card and then took it on their travels. perhaps they went into the local Post Office, bought a stamp and asked nicely if the counter person would stamp it for them! Just an idea.
Thread: Postal History of the future?
Is this the postal history of the future?
When did you last receive a letter with a stamp other than a definite?
Thread: Stamps with Back Still Gummed
These are probably mint stamps that have not been used postaly. If you lick them and stick straight to a page you will not be able to move them again without damaging them. Either use stamp hinges, which not many collectors use today, or use stamp mounts. You place the stamp in the mount and stick the mount to the page.
A couple of types available are Hawid & Showgard.
Thread: University Project on Stamps (Help)
Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your interest in our hobby. Probably the best way to start here is to look through the list of forum topics. Looking at the current list of topics I can see perhaps answers to at least three of your questions.
After reading through a few of these you might want to ask some more questions. I am sure a few of our contributors would be glad to help you with your project.
Thread: Help needed with reading cover.
Thanks for the info Geoff. I can see the principle of it but it still seems strange that I have been receiving letters from this company for years and have never seen a marking like this before.
Any extra charge must have gone to the sender. Anyway I do have a friendly postie!!
Could anybody help by reading the black rectangular box on this envelope?
It intrigues me because it was just an ordinary business letter.
Thread: Do you have an SG Part 10 Russia catalogue?
If you try www.stampworld.com, you can use it without signing up. Use "select a country" drop down in top corner and select Nagorno-Karabakh,
Hope this helps.
Thread: Polish stamp overprinted with German
Not my field but I think the stamp is from a 1921 Red Cross set. Can't translate the German but have found a couple of sets with the same overprint for sale on delcampe.com.
Thread: Royal Mail Regular Orders
Welcome to the forum Kevin. You are joining a long list of people who have become disillusioned with Royal mail stamp issuing policy. I gave up with new issues many years ago. I now collect used up to about 1990 and various covers.
When did you last see a special issue stamp on an ordinary letter?
