Royal Mail will celebrate the gold medals of Paralympic champions, but in a single miniature sheet rather than with individual stamps.

The six-stamp miniature sheet will show groups of Paralympic athletes on each stamp, and be released on September 27, two-and-a-half weeks after the Paralympics finish. The sheet will be available in more than 5,200 post offices.

The British team won 42 golds at the Beijing Olympics, so an instant stamp scheme would have been prohibitively expensive for collectors.

Royal Mail becomes the first postal administration to celebrate the national Paralympic team’s medals. It is making a gift of £200,000 to the British Paralympics Association which will be shared equally among all ParalympicsGB gold medal winners.
