The Football Heroes stamps sees 11 greats of the game depicted in a mock ‘team photo’ across a miniature sheet.

The men wear their national strips, so George Best appears in the green of Northern Ireland, Wales’ John Charles appears in red and the two Scots, Denis Law and Dave Mackay are in blue. Top English goalkeeper Gordon Banks wears his trademark yellow strip, while the five other Englishmen, Kevin Keegan, John Barnes, Bryan Robson, Bobby Charlton and Jimmy Greaves wear red or white.

The team was created by artist Andrew Kinsman, who adapted photographs of the players into a composite artwork.

Royal Mail said: ‘The eleven players selected were chosen for their outstanding record on the pitch and representation of their home countries. All are in the National Football Museum’s Hall of Fame.’

The issue marks the 150th anniversary of the Football Association and the 140th anniversary of the Scottish Football Association.
