This pine-marten-bites-footballer story/video reminded me of the pine marten stamp from the GB 2004 Woodland Animals issue.

There's NOTHING you can't illustrate with stamps.

Come on, let's have your favourite animal stamps!

Adrian, you may avert your eyes from this entry...!!thinking

Well, I've always had a thing about butterflies. Here are two examples from Germany (East & West).

Do they have to be living animals?

I have always had an interest in Trilobites and have a few fossils from places like Utah. They were a highly successful species living in the early seas. Just love 'em...

Really, Alex, trilobites???!!!

Now I really wish I had averted my eyes!

Butterflies ain't so bad compared to that. And to be honest, much as I like my birds to be of the variety I can actually see around me, I don't mind looking at the more tropical varieties of butterflies. Better still, I was tempted into buying a set of Bolivian butterfly stamps the other day!

Another trilobite stamp, this time from Slovenia.

tribstamp.jpg

When I lived in Germany I would go fossil hunting in Bavaria. Found many ammonites and shells but never a trilobite. There is a great natural history museum in Coburg which I always visited in order to see their fossil collection. I even wrote a short feature about trilobites in our school newspaper.

I used to go and see the dinosaur skeletons at the Natural History Museum in New York and I thought that the triceratops was great. Used to imagine these big animals roaming across the countryside.

As some of you may have seen, a lone walrus was spotted on Orkney (islands to the north of Scotland) and then again in Norway.

I knew there were some beautiful Canadian stamps out there, so I present to you the 1954 and 2005 Walrus stamps (the 2005 one was reprinted lots, I think this is a 2010 version):

Beautiful engraving, too.

At the bottom of the Norwegian article, it says 'Don't try to go swimming with the walrus'. Ya think?

I'm sure we've discussed the security features on this series before (in fact, Adrian, did you do a blog?), but, here, courtesy of Keijo Kortelainen, is a close-up of the microprinted tusks.

Keijo's done a blogpost on all the features, and his blog is always worth a read.

Been a while since we did anything in this thread, but these Australia Bush Babies (second issue) are perfect for it. And perfect for a Monday morning (which it is, here, anyway!).
