Beautiful stamp, that goshawk stamp. Vera will like that one! The US really do some mean bird stamps!

You are right, I like it very much, I like the whole set of 5 , as it includes a golden eagle . These stamps are 85c value meant for local post. Rates have just increased in the US to $1.10.

here's the Golden Eagle on a cover I received the other day

Sorry, Vera, went in to your post to try to sort that link out.

Use the camera icon above (little black box, white 'lens' to bring up a dialogue box box with your albums in it. Then click on the correct album and pic.

Copyright infringement: hasn't Audubon been dead for years? I'm no copyright expert, but I would think that would be ok. It might be possible to copyright a more recent reproduction of his work if, say, you were the publisher. So no copying straight out of your Audubon books. She says, wading deeper and deeper into something she doesn't really understand...

And the imperial eagle will actually appear TWICE in the March issue (we don't plan these things!). The Recurring Theme is Endangered Species/Conservation (partly because I knew everyone in this thread would love it) and the imperial eagle appears on a stamp for the Israeli Wildlife Hospital.

And people in this thread may well enjoy the 'new species' article in the March issue, too. I'm just about to proof-read it. Plenty of birds in that one!

Apopogies Julia for giving you extra work ..this time I'm having a prob regulating the font sizes ..

Just noticed on this 2010 UAE set of hexagonal stamps of sea birds, two out of the six stamps are incorrectly named...factual errors...the 2AED stamp labelled Grey Heron should be Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) and 1AED stamp which looks like a Black headed gull is really a Little Gull (Larus minutus). Other birds are Socotra Cormorant, Crab plover , Caspian Gull and Sooty Gull

No problem, that's what I'm here for. I'm popping in and out because press day is always LOTS TO DO RIGHT NOW, or nothing to do and that can change in seconds.

See the icon four from left? Little clipboard, blue blob? That's a 'plain text' paste, so it will strip out any formatting for you.

This is the complete set of the 2012 USA raptor portraits, the names of the birds are easy to read and only the purists really want the Latin name as well.

I'm really keen on travelled birds so here's a couple of the raptors which flew in from Mountain Lakes. I wanted to replace this image for the one in my previous posting .

Have you seen the recent Taiwan engraved owls on stamps? Four stamps of endemic owls were released in 2011 and a second in 2012. I believe there wil be another set this year 2013. The engravers all left their marks on these stamps..which you can see by scanning at 600dpi ! Here's a couple of them and I do have scans of them all if you want to see more. The magnified lettering on the stamps relates to the names of the engravers, Lin Hong song, Chou Mei Ling, Chen Yu Ling and Huang Lien Tsai. Printed by intaglio on phosphorescent paper.

They are quite stunning those Taiwanese stamps. Maybe you can upload a few on the engravers thread as well?

I really like the USA set as well though it reminds me very much of that beautiful Portuguese set of the late 1990s/early 2000s. I think they were amongh the first (could be wrong though) to pioneer the close-up portraits of birds, to show off their beauty.

Here, from the 2001 set, is the black-winged kite

and the Egyptian vulture.
