Hi all, does anybody know more about these covers that have lots of stamps affixed to them?

I have a German example.

I wondered if there is a specific name for these.

Hi Adrian

these are usually referred to as inflation mail. Germany, Hungary and China are prime examples. My interests are China and I admire the Chinese PO who had a handstamp informing that the weight of the stamps should not be included in calculating the postage rate. I also like the few rates which lasted only one day, or on one occasion changed at lunchtime in one city. Some great rarities due to these fleeting rates.

It would be good to see the front of this cover as well.

At first glance it looks like an German Inflation period cover (1923). The stamps are 2 Mark Dienstmarken ones, that is for official governmental department use.

However this could also be (unlikely but the reason for a front scan request) an high value insured letter (Wertbrief).

The 100 Mark (if these are the only stamps on the cover) paid the local letter rate (100 - 250g) or non local letter rate (up to 20g). Off course, I expect that there are more stamps on the front.

Hope that helps.
