World Exhibition - Malaga 2006

Official: Stamp Magazine is world class

Stamp Magazine was awarded a vermeil medal in the philatelic literature class at the world exhibition in Malaga on October 7-14.
A member of the jury applauded the magazine for its 'broad coverage of in depth articles' which 'gave the committed philatelic public a wider, serious, view of philately and encouraged readers to expand into fresh and more embracing subjects.'
There were 185 entrants in the literature class.
Other British awards in Malaga included Arthur Woo's large gold for the 'Provincial Issues of Argentina'. British winners of a gold were Geoffrey Eibl-Kaye for the London Philatelist Archival Edition, Otto Hornung for the Carpatho-Ukraine, Michael Bister for the France 1f50 Pétain issue, Patrick Pearson for the Ottoman period in Iraq, Derrick Pillage for the start of the transcontinental routes in the USA 1918-1924, and heart transplant recipient Steve Boorn for his thematic display, 'The Heart is Life'.
The Grand Prix d'Honor went to Antonio Cuesta Garcia for 'Philippines Postal History 1776-1897', and the Grand Prix International to Luis Alemany for 'Brazil 1843-1854'.
