Britain celebrates Pub Sign designs
Britain has celebrated its love of pubs by issuing five Pub Signs stamp designs on August 12 this year. The five designs are the GB contribution to this year’s Europa theme of Poster Art and they are the first time that pubs have ever featured in a Royal Mail Special Stamp issue.

A Royal Mail spokesman told STAMP MAGAZINE: ‘This is a one-offset, not a series. They have chronology in terms of these particular pieces of artwork’. In ascending value order they are The Station (1st class); The Black Swan (E, 37p); The Cross Keys (42p); The Mayflower (47p); and The Barley Sheaf (68p).
In total Britain boasts around 50,000 pubs, with 17,00 different names but Royal Mail managed to whittle that down to just five for this attractive set.

The issue has been printed in gravure by De La Rue and it is accompanied by a first day cover, presentation pack, and stamp postcards.
