Harry
Potter link in Scotland set Movie character Harry Potter flew through one of its 21 arches in the 2002-released film The Chamber of Secrets and now the Glenfinnan Viaduct features on the 47p value from the British Journey: Scotland set of six – issued on July 15, 2003. It’s just one of the six Scottish landscapes in the set – the others are Loch Assynt, Sutherland (2nd class); Ben More on the Isle of Mull (1st class); Rothiemurchus in the Cairngorms (E value); Dalveen Pass in the Lowther Hills (47p); and Papa Little in the Shetlands (68p). Explaining the design of the stamps Gavin Macrae, Royal Mail’s Director of Stamps & Collectibles, told STAMP MAGAZINE: ‘What we are trying to do is invite the viewer into the landscape via an attractive feature’. The stamps feature images shot by Scottish photographers, including four by Colin Baxter, and Macrae noted: ‘A dramatic range of colours has been captured by the photographers’. The issue has been designed by Phelan Barker Design Consultants and printed by De La Rue. As well as the stamps it is accompanied by a £2.80 presentation pack (no. 349); a £1.68 retail book containing four 1st class Machins and two of the 1st class Ben More stamp; a 25p first day cover envelope; and six 25p stamp postcards. The Scotland set is the first in a series of 10 sets that will eventually make up the British Journey series. The next one in the series is the Northern Ireland set which is scheduled for issue in March 2004. |
